Why speed matters
Google uses page speed and Core Web Vitals as ranking factors, and visitors abandon slow sites — especially on mobile. A faster website ranks better, keeps people engaged and converts more of them into enquiries.
Key reasons websites are slow
- Large, uncompressed images
- Cheap or overloaded hosting
- Too many plugins or heavy page builders
- No caching or CDN
- Render-blocking scripts and fonts
Test your site with Google PageSpeed Insights, then talk to us about fixing what you find.
Core Web Vitals explained simply
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): how quickly the main content appears. Aim for under 2.5 seconds.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): how quickly the page responds when someone taps or clicks. Aim for under 200 milliseconds.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): how much the page jumps around while loading. Aim for under 0.1.
Google uses these measures as part of its page experience signals. Meeting them helps both your rankings and the experience your visitors have.
Our speed optimisation process
- Baseline testing on mobile and desktop
- Image compression, resizing and WebP conversion
- Caching, CDN and server tuning
- Removing unused CSS and JavaScript and deferring non-critical scripts
- Optimising font loading and third-party scripts such as chat widgets and trackers
- Re-testing and a before-and-after report
When a rebuild is the better option
Sometimes a site is built on such a heavy theme or page builder that optimisation can only do so much. In that case, we'll tell you honestly whether a lean website redesign would be better value in the long run.
